Patrick Jean-Marie – ATIKA

Limited Edition Compact Disk – ATIKA – 1980

Historical recording conducted by Guadeloupean pianist PATRICK JEAN-MARIE with the noticeable presence the called ‘King’ of Ka drum : VELO (Marcel Lollia).

Outdoor and mono recording, canned by the composer himself during rehearsals between1980/81, in a famous disused school in Grand-Camp (Guadeloupe).

For short years this mythical squat has been a special place where most artists of their time, and specially musicians, would meet and get inspired. (Robert Oumaou, Gilbert Coco, José Manclière, Joel Nankin,…)

Some were rehearsing there, some were sleeping there, some were taking drugs there, it was a place of experiments and researched reflecting that unique Free Spirit from late 70S and early 80s.

Raw, captured in situ, with a mono tape recorder directly placed on the ground, this rought recording is a rare historic heritage, symbole of the researches and feelings of that era.

Private pressing from Patrick Jean-Marie, ATIKA is quite unknown, despite its importance, since most of the 200 copies were destroyed at the time, making this LP one of the most hard to find from the island.

Original tapes has been lost, this reissue has been made from a vinyl kindly lend by Fred Martin (Les Mains Noires).

Remastered as an historic document, faithfully and with care by Christophe Hénault (Art & Son Studio)
